My alarm clock rang at 5:30 AM. Getting out of my cozy bed on my free day wasn’t easy first but soon the excitement for today’s day trip took over. If I wake up that early it has to be for something special.
I’ve been invited to an Instawalk by Attersee-Attergau Tourism board and IGers Austria. Not only would it be my first time visiting Lake Attersee but also my first Instawalk.

A Day at the Lake Restores the Soul

Lake Attersee an 2.5 hours drive away from Vienna located in the Salzkammergut region. It is Austria’s third largest lake by area and has drinking water quality. The turquoise blue lake is framed by scenic mountains and charming villages. It’s one of these places where you immediately feel like on vacation from the moment you arrive.

There are various activities to do in this area. If you want to go swimming, hiking, sailing, windsurfing, bicycling, take a boat ride or just relax, then it’s the perfect destination for you.

One Day Itinerary for Lake Attersee

Our first stop was the pile dwelling pavilion at Seewalchen to learn about the life back 6000 years ago at these settlements. The pile dwellings discovered beneath Lake Attersee have been declared an UNESCO World Heritage. Experienced divers can experience submerged buildings underwater.

Afterwards we went for a delicous lunch at the fish restaurant Langostinos next to the Marina in Schöffern. With a belly full of delicous food we got on the boat ride with Lake Attersee Shipping Company where we tasted a local craft beer by Bierschmiede and enjoyed the views of the fairytale landscapes from the upper boat deck.

Our day trip was completed with a visit at the Klimt Zentrum. The famous painter used to spent his summers here because he preferred the tranquil surroundings over the buzzing city of Vienna. If you’re a fan of Klimt’s landscape paintings then you have to visit lake Attersee. All around the region you can find the places from his paintings.

Big thanks to Attersee-Attergau Tourism board and IGers Austria for the invitation and the opportunity to learn more about this region. It definitely won’t be my last visit and I can’t wait to be back again!
